Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC)

The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (Smarter Balanced or SBAC) is a state-led organization that has developed next-generation assessments aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) to accurately measure student progress toward college- and career-readiness.  The work of Smarter Balanced is guided by the belief that a high-quality assessment system will provide information and tools for teachers and schools to improve instruction and help students succeed – regardless of disability, language or subgroup.
In Spring 2015, students in grades 3-8 and 11 will participate in the first administration of the fully operational Smarter Balanced Assessment.  For up-to-date California testing information, refer to the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) website.
